Frequently Asked Questions
Your Questions Answered
What are your fees?
I charge £60 per 50 minutes session. Payment is required within 24 hours of the session. I do offer a limited number of concessions for low income, please contact for availability.
What happens when you first make contact with me?
I will arrange for us to have an initial telephone conversation which will last about 15 minutes. I will ask for you to give me a brief outline as to why you are seeking therapy to make sure that counselling is the right fit for you and will make some brief notes (if I feel you need a different type of treatment then I will signpost you to the appropriate services). I will tell you how I work, and you can ask me any further questions about how we will work together in therapy so you can make an informed decision as to whether I am the right fit for you as your therapist.
What happens at the first session?
In our first session I will carry out a more detailed assessment to understand both your physical and mental health in a bit more detail, and a brief outline of your family background. I will then give you the chance to tell me in more detail why you have come to therapy and what your hopes are of the outcome of coming to therapy.
How many counselling sessions will I need?
That really is dependant on your needs and circumstances. I normally recommend an absolute minimum of 6 sessions for it to have any therapeutic benefit, but it is not unusual for clients to have therapy on a long-term basis. I recommend clients have weekly sessions as this allows the therapy to have continuity.
How do I pay for counselling?
I recommend that you pay by bank transfer, but for face to face clients (only) I do take payment by cash. Payment is required within 24 hours of the session.
Do you offer discounted rates?
I do offer discounted rates for students and people on low income but these are limited and subject to availability.
What happens I can't make a session?
You are required to give a minimum of 48 hours’ notice when cancelling or rescheduling an appointment, otherwise the full fee is payable. You will not be charged for appointments missed due to illness provided you give me at least 24 hours’ notice.
What if you are running late?
If you are able to, then please text me to let me know you are running late so I know to still expect you. Normally I will not be able to offer you your full time of the session as I will have clients booked in after you and cannot run over time into their session.
Are the sessions confidential?
Yes. I offer a safe, supportive environment where you can explore your issues in confidence with a fully qualified non-judgemental, professional counsellor. I am a registered member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP) and I abide by their Ethical Framework for Good Practice. My work is clinically supervised by a senior accredited supervisor, in confidence, and all client identities are anonymised.
